Exploring Aransas Pass and Rockport Fishing Spots

Daniel Lopez

Eduardo and I started the day fishing near the ferry in Aransas Pass, working artificial lures and live shrimp while slowly getting more comfortable with wade fishing.

The morning started strong when I hooked a 15-inch redfish on our Oso De Oro paddletail by Texas Made Lures. We also landed a mangrove snapper while sharing some embarrassing childhood stories.

Between casts, we got into a pretty funny debate about buying our first fishing boat. I wanted something inexpensive that we could fix up and learn on, while Eduardo thought we should save for something more reliable.

Later, while heading back to our hotel, we stopped at a random roadside fishing spot near the harbor in Rockport. A local fisherman jokingly told us he'd never caught anything there, but we decided to try anyway.

We ended up catching a piggy perch, then on the roadside  we caught a small black drum.

It wasn't an incredible day of fishing, but we made the most of it and had plenty of laughs along the way.
