Exploring Port Bolivar Fishing Spots

Daniel Lopez

Eduardo and I headed to Port Bolivar for a full day of fishing, starting at Broken Bridge. I brought along a vintage Garcia Mitchell 304 reel and fiberglass rod from the 1960s, hoping to catch flounder the same way my dad does.

The reel belonged to my friend Richard's father, and I promised Richard I'd keep it in my family.

Between casts, we talked about reconnecting with old friends and how certain memories stay with us over the years.

Fishing was a little slow, but we managed to catch a redfish before moving to another spot across from Broken Bridge, where we landed a small drum and croaker.

We later checked out Fort Travis Park before grabbing lunch and heading toward the Bolivar Ferry.

Our final stop produced several sand trout, whiting, and the occasional hardhead catfish.

We never found the big flounder I was hoping for, but exploring new spots and spending the day fishing with Eduardo made the trip worthwhile.
