Fishing and BBQ in Port Lavaca, Texas

A trip to Port Lavaca's Six Mile Pier started with high hopes, but the strong coastal winds quickly made fishing a challenge. Having experienced success there before, Eduardo returned expecting a productive outing, only to find difficult conditions and slow fishing. Despite moving between multiple locations and trying different approaches, most of the catches were gafftop catfish—far from the target species.

During a break from fishing, Eduardo decided to visit Lavaca BBQ, one of Texas Monthly's highest-rated barbecue restaurants. He sampled brisket, ribs, sausage, brisket beans, and potato salad. While the food was excellent, the friendly service and welcoming atmosphere stood out even more.

The experience provided a much-needed boost before heading back to the water.

As the evening bite began, persistence finally paid off. After several missed opportunities and more unwanted gafftop catfish, Eduardo landed a small speckled trout using a Texas Made prawn beneath a Texas Made float. Though not a trophy catch, it was a rewarding end to an otherwise difficult day.

The trip served as a reminder that fishing success isn't always measured by the size or number of fish caught. Sometimes it's about adapting to tough conditions, exploring new places, enjoying great food, and appreciating the small victories that make every adventure worthwhile.
