Fishing South Padre Island Jetties & Rio Hondo

Eduardo started his morning at the South Padre Island jetties, hoping to finally break a difficult fishing streak. With live shrimp unavailable, he tried Fishbites recommended by a local fishing captain he had met the previous day. Unfortunately, the fish still weren't cooperating.

Despite the slow bite, Eduardo found another reason to appreciate the journey—the people he met along the way. Local anglers shared fishing spots, techniques, and advice. Those conversations continued to be one of his favorite parts of traveling and fishing across Texas.

After leaving the jetties empty-handed, Eduardo met up with friends for seafood before heading inland to Spotted Sea Trout Park in Rio Hondo. The park offered campsites, a boat ramp, and a fishing pier where green lights illuminated the water after dark.

Determined to change his luck, Eduardo stayed on the water well into the night. By then, he had been fishing since around 6:00 that morning. Even under the green lights, however, neither Eduardo nor the anglers around him could find a bite.

After an exhausting day without landing a fish, Eduardo finally accepted that it was time to call it a night. Although another difficult fishing day was frustrating, the experience was still filled with new places, good food, helpful people, and valuable lessons.

Sometimes fishing isn't about what gets caught. It's about continuing to show up, learning from every trip, and believing the next cast could change everything.
