Fishing Sylvan Beach Pier

Daniel Lopez

Eduardo and I headed to Sylvan Beach to fish the rebuilt pier for the first time. I hadn't fished there in years. The last time was with Diego and Diana, and before that, my dad and I used to fish the old pier many years ago.

We grabbed live shrimp and started toward the end, but the fishing was slow. Once we moved closer to the rocks near the entrance, things changed quickly.

We started catching fish, including black drum and a small redfish. We also landed croaker, a stingray, and some piggy perch. One bigger fish managed to get away before we could get it into the net.

Just before calling it, I hooked another redfish on a piece of cut bait, giving us one more catch to finish the day.

The rebuilt pier was impressive, the fishing picked up once we found the right area, and it was cool returning to a place where I had fished with my family years ago.
