Galveston Pier Fishing Turns Into a Speckled Trout Day

Eduardo started his morning before sunrise at a Galveston fishing pier he had never visited before. Even though he has lived in Houston his entire life, he has surprisingly spent very little time fishing Galveston. With no live bait available, Eduardo started with Fishbites and artificial lures around the pier pilings.

The fishing wasn't exactly on fire. He managed a few smaller fish, including whiting and a tiny gafftop, but nothing that convinced him to stay much longer. Between the rising heat and paid parking starting later that morning, he packed up and headed toward another spot.

That decision completely changed the day.

Near Freeport, Eduardo stopped at a public fishing area by the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. Almost immediately, he caught a small speckled trout. Soon afterward, Eduardo hooked into a much bigger speck that appeared to be a keeper. Since he wasn't keeping fish that day, he quickly released it.

By the end of the session, Eduardo had caught three fish, including two speckled trout.

Days like this reminded him why the difficult fishing trips are worth it. The slow days and frustrating outings make it even more rewarding when he finds the right spot and everything finally starts coming together.
