Night Fishing at Goose Island State Park
Daniel Lopez
After an exhausting day, Eduardo and I still weren't ready to stop fishing. We had been up since early that morning, spent the day kayak fishing, dealt with camera and microphone problems, and Eduardo even managed to fall out of his kayak. After grabbing a quick sandwich at our campsite, we headed to the fishing pier at Goose Island State Park.
It didn't take long for the speckled trout to start biting. Most were small, but we were getting plenty of action on our Oso de Oro paddle tails and the dart lures. Eduardo finally got on the board after his rough day, while I managed to hook what I thought was a good fish—only to discover I had caught an oyster.
Between catches, we talked about our kayak adventure, future fishing spots, and my new fear of wading around stingrays.
As the night continued, the trout bite picked up. We kept catching and missing fish until nearly midnight, even though we'd been fishing since early that morning.
Eventually, with the camera almost dead and both of us exhausted, we agreed on one final cast. Somehow, that last cast actually produced another fish. There couldn't have been a better way to finally call it a night.
