Our First Kayak Fishing Trip in Corpus Christi
Daniel Lopez
Eduardo and I got the opportunity to try something completely new in Corpus Christi which was kayak fishing Oso Bay with Blue Sky Kayak Rentals and Coastal Republic TX Bait Co. The setup was completely plug-and-play, with the kayaks unloaded and ready for us to hit the water.
It didn't take long for me to understand why people love kayak fishing. Being able to quietly move through the shallow water and actually see tailing redfish was an entirely different experience. We learned how to stake out an area, fan cast, and move along with the schools of reds. Then Eduardo made the trip unforgettable.
While fighting what he thought was a big fish, he lost his balance and flipped his kayak. After all that excitement, the fish turned out to be a hardhead. Thankfully, Eduardo was fine, and David helped him get back into the kayak.
Unfortunately, some of our camera equipment and batteries weren't as lucky.
Even with the accident, I loved the experience. We learned a lot, laughed even more, and I could definitely see us doing more kayak fishing in the future.
Afterward, Eduardo and I headed to Walmart to replace some damaged gear and grab cheap food for camping at Goose Island. After a $92 fishing net and Eduardo's kayak accident, our trip officially had a new priority: staying on budget.
