Port Aransas Jetty Fishing
Daniel Lopez
Eduardo and I made it to Port Aransas for a full weekend of fishing. We started the morning around the rocks at the Port Aransas Jetty and then moved to Roberts Point Park with live shrimp and artificial lures, hoping to find some redfish, drum, or maybe a flounder.
The morning produced a mix of smaller fish, including ladyfish and piggy perch. I also tried an old-school bottom rig similar to something my dad used to fish with, but I couldn't find the bigger fish I was looking for.
Then Eduardo hooked into something different. When he brought it up, it was a flounder—the exact fish I had been hoping to catch.
He caught it on a Texas Made Lures paddletail in our Oso de Oro colorway by working it along the bottom, slowly reeling and bouncing the lure. It wasn't a keeper, but catching one on an artificial lure made it even better.
I tried switching up my technique after seeing his success, but Eduardo had bragging rights for the morning.
Not a bad way to start our Port Aransas fishing weekend.
