Sunrise Fishing in Aransas Pass

Eduardo and I started the morning fishing the shallow water around Aransas Pass as the sun came up. We were still recovering from the previous day's kayak adventure, especially Eduardo, whose Shimano reel didn't survive getting dunked in saltwater when he flipped his kayak.

The morning quickly improved when he hooked a nice speckled trout on a gold Flat Water Baits spoon we had picked up at Ranch to Reef. The trout measured about 15 inches, and after finally catching a fish on a spoon, he released it and kept fishing.

While working the shoreline, Eduardo and I talked about how much our fishing has changed over the past year and a half. Driving through Rockport also brought back memories of childhood family vacations and my parents dreaming about someday owning a small place near the coast.

Of course, the morning wasn't all serious. We joked about Eduardo's kayak accident, my future campaign for mayor of Palacios, and even stopped fishing long enough for Eduardo to prove he could hold his breath for a full minute.

Eventually, the Texas heat started taking over, so we packed up and headed into town. Eduardo still needed a replacement reel, which turned into a search through tackle shops and even pawn shops for something that could handle our next saltwater adventure.
