Texas City Dike for Speckled Trout

Eduardo started the day before sunrise at the Texas City Dike, determined to beat the Texas heat and hopefully find some fish during the early morning bite. After trying a couple of spots without much action, he kept moving until the persistence finally paid off as he hooked into a beautiful 18-inch speckled trout. It was a perfect keeper-sized fish, but he decided to release it. Catching that trout made the early wake-up and constant spot-changing worth it.

Later that evening, Eduardo switched things up completely and met me and Junior for some urban freshwater fishing. We threw wacky rigs and searched shaded areas where we thought bass might be hiding.

Eventually, Eduardo found one tucked near cover and landed a bass. Junior followed up by catching one of his own, continuing his ridiculous streak of somehow catching fish whenever he joins us.

Of course, fishing was only part of the evening. Between casts, we talked about everything from Junior's check-engine light and FIFA obsession to Daniel's infamous workplace story about a coworker allegedly taking 13 donuts meant for the entire office.

It was the perfect example of what these fishing trips have become: catching fish, learning something new, hanging out with friends, and having plenty of laughs along the way.
