Escape for the Weekends
Choosing Our Next Vehicle
As mentioned in my previous “What’s Going On” post we are looking for the next vehicle to take on the road. We plan to head further south in Texas first and we will probably storage our trusty 2019 Sprinter 4x4 in a storage facility and drive to and from it on weekends. This allows us the opportunity to have a fully equipped vehicle that one of us can stay in overnight when fishing and exploring. The second vehicle will be setup for the other person to sleep in when we are camping overnight as well as driving to and from the Sprinter. I was looking at a 2025 Toyota Tacoma SR online that was base model but with the only option being added the optional 4x4 drivetrain. I really liked the idea that it was a very basic and simple model...
Arizona ROAM72 - April 25, 2019 - Trip 6
As we boarded our plane from Houston headed to Arizona for the weekend we knew a fun filled time was ahead of us. The routine of leaving work on time and with enough time to get to our flight was becoming easy now. We would end up sleeping at a Walmart parking lot for the night once in Phoenix, Arizona. Walmarts for the most part are an easy choice for overnight camping in the city. They serve as a great spot to fill up on everything you need such as groceries and camping supplies for our weekend trips. After backing into our spots for the night we were able to get plenty of rest before our journey to Horseshoe Bend. On our way we stopped for some scenic views as well as opportunities to take breaks in the 273 mile drive north...
Arizona ROAM72 - March 28, 2019 - Trip 5
On our way out of work we discussed that we would be picking up Abel’s vanagon “Libby” at a local Phoenix shop before heading to a casino to camp in the parking lot for the night. We grabbed groceries for the night which included enough food just for two days. In the morning we headed for a spot on BLM free camping land in the Tonto National Forest. The spot we found was nice and clear enough for our three vehicles to park together. We camped for the day and enjoyed the spot but early the next morning the guys wanted to explore more of the area so we headed out. We came across a new spot in Bonita Creek off a fire control road and NF-431 and settled in. Abel pulled out the drone and Eduardo gave it a whirl. I made a “coffee...
Moving to Arizona ROAM72 - February 21, 2019 - Trip 4
After experiencing some really cold weather conditions in New Mexico our pre-purchased flight tickets would have us calling a new state our hub for the next few months. Arizona would be our destination for a bit and we would learn that Phoenix PHX in particular is a great little airport that is really easy to get in and out of quickly. On this trip we would have an additional guest named Shannon which is Eduardo’s girlfriend and navigator. Over the trip I would learn that Shannon is just as quick witted as her counterpart which made for a great addition on the trip. Day 1 Thursday – We left a bit earlier than usual in order to make sure we got through TSA and the lines with our additional passenger. As we flew into Albuquerque for...
New Mexico ROAM72 - January 03, 2019 - Trip 3
As we entered the new year we were excited about our trips ahead, after all we had no restrictions on where we could go as well as no real plan further than a couple of months of pre-purchased tickets back to Albuquerque, New Mexico for now. Day 1 Thursday – We left work and made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare, things were looking good. As we settled into our seats on the plane the captain announced that there may be a delay on our flight, something about a crew shortage. Twenty minutes later we were being told that our flight would be delayed until the morning. They announced we would be given a hotel and food voucher and scheduled for the first flight out in the morning. This would have a serious impact on such a...
