On this day we fish Freeport Riverplace Pier in Freeport Texas and after a miserable rainy day we finally get lucky and get on some fish.
We start off at the Bridge Bait Shop in Freeport, Texas grabbing some shrimp and crab before trying their pier to see what we can get into. Right away there’s a little friendly trash talk—Junior’s got bragging rights from last week, and I’m determined not to let him think he runs the show. Our goal is simple: outfish him.
I finally figure out how to properly adjust the brakes on my bait caster reel, which explains all my backlashes lately, so that felt like a small win. Eduardo and I talk about the new Toyota Tacoma I just bought and how much it meant that he drove hours with me to pick it up. It turns into one of those real conversations about friendship and showing up for each other.
The weather keeps changing on us—rain, fog, then sun—so we bounce between spots, from the beach at St. Luis Pass to the municipal pier, just trying to stay dry and find fish. We catch a few small ones to keep things interesting, then finally I hook into a solid black drum on a piece of dead shrimp. That fish makes the whole grind worth it.
Not perfect conditions, just a good day fishing together.
