On this day we headed back out to Port Lavaca, trying our luck at the main pier to see if we could get on some solid fish. We paid the five bucks to get in, checked out the water, and right away Eduardo started talking a little trash, promising to outfish me and his little brother Junior.
Junior came out swinging while we were still getting set up, he started catching—little drum, a red, croakers—one after another. Somehow he always has that kind of luck. Meanwhile, I was grinding it out, switching spots, changing rigs, trying to figure out the bite. The pier was slow for me, but the jokes and competition kept it fun.
Later we moved to the boat ramp, and that’s where things finally turned around. Fishing live shrimp under a popping cork. Eduardo hooked into a solid beautiful 18-inch speckled trout—the best catch of the day and easily the biggest fish between all of us. That moment made the whole trip worth it.
Even though Junior caught the most fish overall, Eduardo landing that big speck felt like a win. Just another fun day fishing with friends, talking smack, learning, and making memories. Another great fishing day in Port Lavaca, Texas and yet another special day for @Eduardo “Oso” as he catches his first large Speckled Trout.
