Building the Sprinter van had been a dream for a long time, and finally seeing it finished felt unreal. Eduardo packed it with fishing gear, cooking supplies, clothes, and everything he thought he’d need to explore the Texas coast. The van wasn’t flashy, but it had everything — a shower, solar panels, a fridge, a bed, and enough storage to keep him on the road for days.
As he loaded everything in, he realized the trip was about more than fishing. It was his first real chance to experience the van life he had spent so much time helping build for others. I helped throughout the process, offering gear, advice, and guidance, but this journey would be different because Eduardo was finally heading out on his own.
His first stop was Matagorda, Texas. After grabbing bait at Wayne’s Bait and Tackle, he parked near the jetty and made the first cast of the trip. The fishing wasn’t spectacular — just a small stingray and a croaker — but that hardly mattered.
Sitting alone near the water, knowing he didn’t have to wake up for work the next morning, gave him a feeling of freedom he hadn’t experienced before.
That first night, parked near the beach with the van behind him, everything started to feel real. The journey wasn’t only about catching fish. It was about discovering who he was when the road stretched endlessly ahead and there was nowhere he had to be.
